From Failure to Fabulous

Find your failed projects & let’s turn them into fabulous new projects!

Do you have projects that you started, then put them to the side for some of these reasons…

  • Less than perfectly-pieced blocks,
  • Colors that were lacking the zing you had planned,
  • The finished top is not worth quilting, and
  • The project is out-dated (colors, pattern, fabrics)?

If so, let’s pull out those failed projects and cut them up to make new, creative solutions such as:

  • Cutting it up to make: Fused, raw-edge appliqué art quilts, placemats, garments, etc.,
  • Cutting it up to make: Pieced quilt tops using Half-Square Triangles or other basic shapes, and
  • Adding more fabric: Add some new, fun, bold fabrics to bring that color scheme to life.

Dig out those hidden, failed projects & let’s have some fun creating a new, fabulous quilt!

Break Free and Create!

Learn general piecing techiques by using traditional shapes to create modern designs.

Classes based on a Quilt Pattern

All of my patterns will work as a quilt class.

5-4-3-2-1 Quilt! and 5-4-3-2-1 Treasures

Both are very beginner friendly; easy to choose fabrics as well. Quick to cut and jump right in to the piecing phase.

Floorboards & Nails

A GREAT pattern to use those ombre fabrics (ombre fabric that only goes 12 way on the WOF). Easy to kit. Quick to cut with virtually no wasted fabric which allows you to jump in to the simple piecing instructions. The ‘nails’ can also be added as ornamental objects (embroidered or quilted in during the quilting phase; embellished using felt, buttons, beads or other objects if the piece is a wall hanging).

Descending Squares

Only uses 2 fabrics (though a set of different colors can be used for the squares if you want a gradient look or rainbow effect). EASY to kit.

Santa Fe Settings

A Modular Art Panel Quilt (also work as placemats). Fun, modern fabrics are showcased & make this beginner quilt look like it takes advanced skill.

Simple Switchbacks

Easy piecing, but some tricky cutting (great to have a class where I help students cut the background fabric). Great dynamic look!

Zia Quilt

A southwest design that uses a mixture of simple strip piecing and simple foundation blocks.

Just Cut It Out!

A fast, fun, modern design that is great for a fast graduation quilt or other quick gift for young folks. This throw size can easily be made into a bed sized quilt using Wide Back fabrics.

Urban Outlook

I designed this quilt to let Hoffman Fabrics’ All-a-Twitter dot & solid panels shine. Then I made a 2nd quilt using Moda Grunge to test the design using solid blenders. Works great in either option. Easy to kit (ABQ, HipStitch kits this using Moda Grunge).

Santa Fe Triptych

A collection of 12 blocks using traditional geometric shapes. Make a few blocks for a table runner or a small wall hanging, make the 3-panel art quilt, or make a throw; a very versitile class that appeals to many.
